Day 29 of 160

Day 29: Sensors on the Slope

In a mountain barangay in Rodriguez, Rizal, Leanne (A) and Ervin (B), young university researchers, show Tomas (C), the barangay captain, the landslide sensors they have put on the slope above the houses.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Kap, these sensors measure how much the slope moves.

  2. B

Once it passes the threshold, the system texts you right away.

  3. C

Mercy comes from God, but the work comes from us. So who'll do the work once you've gone?

  4. A

We'll still see the data at the university.

  5. C

To you that's just data, but to us it's our lives. Teach the young people here to read it.

  6. B

Leanne, puwede tayong mag-training sa Sabado, 'di ba?

Leanne, we could do a training session on Saturday, right?

  7. A

Opo, Kap.

Yes, Kap. Just pick a few young people, and they'll be the ones watching over the mountain.
