Day 30: Maybe the Rain, Maybe Not
At the head office of a milk tea chain in Santa Rosa, Laguna, Kyle (A), a young data analyst, tells his manager Aldwin (B) that sales at the branches near the universities fell this quarter.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Sales at the branches near the universities dropped fifteen percent.
-
B
Bakit?
Why? The boss is going to ask on Monday, so give it to me straight.
-
A
Perhaps it's the rainy season, or there may be a new competitor near the campuses.

B
"Marahil," "maaari."
"Perhaps," "may." I can't go to the boss with nothing but maybes.

Tila may epekto rin ang bakasyon. Mahirap sabihin kung alin talaga.
The school break seems to be a factor too. It's hard to say which it really is.

B
Then here's what we'll do: compare sales on sunny days and on rainy days.

A
I'll go check out the new shop too. If sales are still down even when it's sunny, it isn't the rain.
