Day 31 of 160

Day 31: Someone Else's Trash

On a street corner in Marikina, Francine (A), who runs a fishball stand, is handed a ticket for unsegregated garbage by Mila (B), the barangay's environment officer.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma'am, para saan po itong tiket? Wala naman po akong ginagawang masama.

Ma'am, what's this ticket for? I haven't done anything wrong.

  2. B

Your bin is a real halo-halo: plastic, sticks and leftover food.

  3. A

What if it was passersby who threw all that into my bin?

  4. B

The bin is in front of your stall, so you're the one responsible.

  5. A

I've only got two hands, haven't I? I'm cooking and making change at the same time.

  6. B

Just a warning for now. But move the bin behind your stall.

  7. A

I will, and I'll put up a sign too: "Halo-halo belongs in a glass, not in the trash."
