Day 52: Firecrackers on the Morning Show
On a morning radio talk show in Malolos, Bulacan, two guests take opposite sides on a proposed ban on firecrackers at New Year: Judith (A), an emergency room nurse, and Michael (B), whose family makes firecrackers in Bocaue.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Every New Year our ER is full, and the number of children hurt by firecrackers seems to keep growing.
-
B
That's painful to hear, but thousands in Bocaue could lose their livelihood.
-
A
That may be, but is it worth it if a child's fingers are the price?
-
B
Perhaps most of the accidents come from illegal firecrackers, not licensed ones.
-
A
I'll admit that many of our patients' firecrackers were illegal ones.
-
B
And I'll admit too that we can't watch over every child at midnight.
-
A
So perhaps the big ones should be left to community fireworks displays?
-
B
We can talk about that. But to everyone still buying: licensed ones only, okay?
