How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Take a look, sir. That bright one in the middle is a planet, a buntala: Jupiter.

  2. B

Ang liit pala! Anak, tingnan mo, may apat na tuldok sa tabi niya.

It's so tiny! Look, kiddo, there are four little dots next to it.

  3. A

Those are its moons, four of its many, many moons.

  4. B

Uy, falling star! Mag-wish daw ako, 'di ba?

Hey, a falling star! I'm supposed to make a wish, right?

  5. A

That's called a bulalakaw, a rock that burns up as it enters the atmosphere. Go ahead, make your wish.

  6. B

Oh, there's more, lots of them, in a line and moving together! Are those meteors too?

  7. A

Those aren't meteors but a line of satellites. Don't waste a wish on them.
