Day 94 of 160

Day 94: Rehearsing the Coop Report

In the office of a fishermen's cooperative in Navotas, Raul (A), the chairman, rehearses the report he will read at tomorrow's general assembly for the treasurer, Oscar (B), and the manager, Beth (C).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Dear members, I am pleased to report that our sales rose fifteen percent.

  2. B

Wow, parang SONA.

Wow, it's like the State of the Nation Address. But "dear members" might be a bit much.

  3. A

It's once a year, humor me. Therefore, our cooperative continues to grow.

  4. C

That's lovely, Raul, but I have bad news. Starting Monday, ice is going up again.

  5. A

Na naman? Magkano na raw ang isang bloke?

Again? How much is a block now?

  6. C

Twenty percent more, they say. If we don't adjust, we lose money on every tub of fish.

  7. B

Ayan, palitan mo na ang "lumalago." Mas bagay yata ang "lumalaban."

There you go, change "grow." "Fight on" might fit better.

  8. A

All right, how about this: "Despite the rising price of ice, our cooperative continues to fight on."
